Vermont Facts What:Kids Voting Vermont, Inc. is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that will train a new generation of Vermont's citizens in the value of voting, and will help increase voter turnout on Election Day. Students kindergarten through high school participate in a curriculum about the election process and then cast their ballots alongside adults on Election Day.
Mission: To teach Vermont's youth the importance of an informed electorate and the value of voting as well as increase adult voter turnout now and in the future.
Schools participating in the Kids Voting Vermont pilot project include:When: Pilot sites implemented for March 7, 2000. Additional sites expected for November 7, 2000 general election . Why: The Kids Voting program is needed in Vermont because, even more than in other states, our young people are not voting. Only 26 percent of 18-24 year olds in Vermont voted in the 1996 election compared to 32.4% for that age group who voted nationally.*
