    JEAN B. ANKENEY    


JEAN B. ANKENEY of St. George, Chittenden County, Democrat, was born in Foochow, China on March 29, 1922 and became a resident of present town in 1975. Occupation: retired public health nurse, teacher, and teacher trainer. She grew up in Williamstown, Massachusetts; attended Northfield Academy, Northfield, Massachusetts; Hiram College, Hiram, Ohio (B.A., 1944); Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio (M.N., 1946). She has two daughters, one son, and two foster sons. Member of: Chittenden County Solid Waste, vice-president; Adelphia Cable Public Access Television Advisory Board; Common Cause, past president; Council of Children and Families, past president; Baird Center; Mozart Festival, YWCA (1990 winner of Susan B. JAN BACKUS of Winooski, Chittenden County, Democrat, was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania on July 30, 1947 and became a resident of present town in 1995. She was educated in elementary schools in Putney, Vermont; graduated from Putney School; and attended the University of Vermont, University of Adelaide, South Australia and Kilkenny Technical College, South Australia. She is married to Stephen S. Blodgett and has three children and three stepchildren. She has been active in her community and local school board. She represented Windham County in the senate from 1989-1994 serving on the Administrative Rules, Agriculture, Health and Welfare (chair) and Judiciary (vice-chair) committees. PETER C. BROWNELL of Richmond, Chittenden County, Republican, was born in New York, New York on November 18, 1948 and became a resident of present town in 1997. Occupation: Special Assistant to the Dean of Continuing Education, University of Vermont. He attended Choate School, Wallingford, Connecticut; University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (B.A. Sociology, 1970); University of Vermont, Burlington, Vermont (M.B.A., 1978). He has one daughter and two sons. ANN HALLOWELL of Burlington, Chittenden County, Democrat, was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey on March 26, 1938 and became a resident of present town in 1981. Occupation: retired lecturer, political science. She attended elementary schools in Montclair, New Jersey; Montclair Kimberley Academy, Montclair, New Jersey; Wheelock College, Brookline, Massachusetts (B.S., 1960); University of Vermont, Burlington, Vermont (B.A., 1985/ M.A., 1989); Massachusetts Institute of Technology, graduate studies. She is married to Robert Hallowell, and they have one daughter and two sons. Former member of: City Council, Ward 6; City Council Finance Board; Present member: Center for Research on Vermont; King Street Revitalization Board; Northwestern Correctional Center Liaison Committee. HELEN S. RIEHLE of South Burlington, Chittenden County, Republican, was born in Somerville, New Jersey on May 5, 1950 and became a resident of present county in September, 1975. Occupation: former middle school social studies teacher. She was educated in elementary schools in Mountainside, New Jersey; Governor Livingston Regional High School, Berkeley Heights, New Jersey; University of Vermont (B.S., Education, 1972). She is married to Theodore M. Riehle, III, and they have three daughters, Augusta, Emily and Sarah.   BARBARA W. SNELLING


     

BARBARA W. SNELLING of Shelburne, Chittenden County, Republican, was born in Fall River, Massachusetts on March 22, 1928 and became a resident of Shelburne in 1953. She graduated from Radcliffe College, 1950; AB magna cum laude, elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She is the widow of Vermont Governor Richard A. Snelling. Children: Jacqueline, Mark, Diane, Andrew. She formerly was the president and owner of Snelling and Kolb, Inc., a firm that consulted to not-for-profit corporations and previously had been employed as Vice President for Development and External Affairs, University of Vermont. She has served on the State Board of Education; Vermont Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Commission; Shelburne School Board, chair; Champlain Valley Union High School, founding chair; United Way of Chittenden County, president; Vermont Community Foundation, founding member; Radcliffe College, trustee. Member of: Chittenden Bank and Chittenden Corporation, chair; Shelburne Museum, board of directors. Recipient: Honorary degree of Doctor of Public Service, Norwich University.
